Leveraging AI to Bring Better Copy to Adobe Express

Challenge

When presenting designs to clients, the use of lorem ipsum text is distracting and diverts attention from the primary focus of the design itself. Placeholder text can lead to confusion and may prompt clients to inquire about the final content and shift attention, causing the meeting to go off track. Content creators are left juggling with time-consuming text adjustments in addition to designing within an ideal state instead of being able to test their design with real or more representative content to ensure their designs are scalable.

Approach

We created Jargonator, an Adobe Express add-on integrated with ChatGPT to allow content creators and designers control over text to produce designs with real content instead of placeholder text. They can generate text using artificial intelligence (AI) and make adjustments in the settings panel to accurately fit their design and target audience, or use it to pressure test whether their design can scale based on varying amounts of text within a specific section.

Results

The Adobe Express Jargonator add-on enables content creators to generate and curate text directly within the design tool, eliminating the need for separate platforms. By inputting detailed instructions, users can quickly generate content in the desired tone and adjust it to fit their design vision, streamlining the content creation process. Jargonator not only allows content creators to efficiently generate marketing content, social media posts, and website copy, but it also eliminates the challenges of writer’s block or switching between tools. This integration allows content creators to focus on refining their designs, test multiple variations of copy in real time, and efficiently create a variety of content. By consolidating both design and content creation in Adobe Express, Jargonator enhances workflows and frees up more time for creativity.

Behind the Scenes: How the Add-On Works

With the Adobe Express add-on, users can replace placeholder text with AI-generated content powered by ChatGPT. In the sidebar, you may enter a description in the prompt to provide detailed instructions aligned with your vision and objectives. The settings allow you to specify the amount of content to be generated, including the option to define the number of paragraphs, sentences, words, or characters. Additionally, you can select the type of content—whether a headline, description, or button—and click “Generate.”

During this process, Jargonator connects to ChatGPT’s API to produce a variation of the requested content. The backend processes user input, manages API calls, and inserts generated text directly into the design. If a text layer is selected in Adobe Express, the add-on replaces its content with the generated text; otherwise, a new text layer is created dynamically. To maintain consistency, Jargonator supports word count detection, ensuring the generated text matches the existing content length when required. If you desire a different outcome, the prompt can be easily refined by offering more specific instructions or adjusting the settings accordingly.

Iterative Design and Messaging for Diverse Audiences

One of the key advantages of the Jargonator add-on is its ability to quickly iterate on both design and messaging, ensuring that content aligns with the needs of diverse audiences. By allowing content creators to test whether short-form or long-form content works best in any given section, Jargonator makes it easy to experiment and fine-tune the message to fit various formats and platforms.

The ideation process is streamlined by allowing content creators to duplicate creations and use Jargonator to produce different versions of headlines and descriptor text. This feature is especially beneficial when designs need to be promoted on different platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, or Google Ads. Having the same content but varying descriptions is helpful when demonstrating the changes in messaging based on the audience and potential sizes of the ads. For example, a headline might need to be condensed from 12 words to just 3 words for a small banner, while a larger “quarter-page” layout allows for more extensive copy.

By providing visual options and tailored messaging variations, Jargonator helps present clients with a more dynamic and adaptable design process. It allows for testing different messages within the same visual framework, making it easier to demonstrate how adjustments in copy can better resonate with distinct audience groups. This approach speeds up the iteration process and ensures more effective communication across multiple platforms.

The Impact: Elevating Creativity and Efficiency

Jargonator has changed the way content is approached for Adobe Express users. Content creators and marketers no longer need to rely on generic and distracting placeholder text within their designs. The add-on’s AI-powered text generation allows for instant content customization, keeping the creative flow uninterrupted. Instead of using time reserved for writing text, designers can use that additional time to refine their design. Meanwhile, content creators can test and enhance their messaging within the design in real time and continue to iterate until their message is effectively conveyed. This not only accelerates design iterations but also creates efficiency and ensures a more polished final product.

For clients, the impact is equally significant. They’re able to engage directly with the visual elements of designs and imagine the content in its final form. This enhances communication between teams, sparks new ideas at times, and streamlines the feedback and approval process.

Overall, the Adobe Express Jargonator add-on enhances creative workflows by integrating AI tools into the creative process and allows you to obtain a final product with fewer iterations with clients or internal stakeholders. Content creators like designers and marketers in Adobe Express can place lorem ipsum in the back of their minds and focus on creating impactful designs with carefully curated content.
